Those who know the work of scriptwriter Robert Holmes will not be at all surprised by the effusive and expansive appreciation in which he is held today by his colleagues, peers, and contemporaries. Whether writing scripts for the far-flung fantasies of Doctor Who or Blake’s 7, or for the more everyday gritty reality Continue Reading
1977, and Doctor Who is at the peak of its powers. The Talons of Weng-Chiang, a last minute replacement story, had ended Season Fourteen on a high, with a gothic horror script by one of the series finest and most prolific writers, a director who knew the show inside out, Continue Reading
The Sylvester McCoy era has become one of the most well-documented periods of Doctor Who’s history. A lot of ground has been covered by Sophie Aldred and Mike Tucker’s memoir Ace!, by DWM interviews, convention panels, the US TV documentary on the making of Silver Nemesis, and of course, Andrew Continue Reading
Oh no. Not her. Please don’t pass her over to me Dad. Martha winced as the grating sound of Annalise’s voice filled her ear. ‘Hi Martha! Hii-iii!’ Martha moved the earpiece slightly away, and put on her best fake telephone smile. ‘Hi Annalise.’ ‘Big kisses! Lots of love! See you Continue Reading
Few topics in Doctor Who fandom are as hotly debated as the one of “Who Should Or Shouldn’t Be Writing For Doctor Who.” There have always been divided opinions, arguments, flame wars directed towards showrunners and their choices, possibly even bar-room brawls and Mexican stand-offs. I’m quite hungover (probably out playing guitars, drinking bad beer and chasing Britpop girls the night before), Continue Reading
1967: Year of Haight and Ashbury, Country Joe and the Fish, and Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis. Everyone has their own theory of when “Doctor Who as we know it” began. Is it An Unearthly Child (The actual beginning)? The Daleks (It’s got Daleks in it)? Marco Polo (The regular Continue Reading
Long term relationships for Doctor Who fans can tend to become love triangles of sorts. Your girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse/whatever you like to call them (I refuse to say “Partner”, it’s a relationship, not a law firm) and your since-childhood relationship with The Doctor aren’t always compatible to say the least, particularly where Continue Reading
Well, it appeared after months of rumours three months ago, and it’s still weird to say this……. At the ripe age of thirty-seven, I can watch (nearly) all of The Web of Fear! It carries on past Episode 1! I blink and it doesn’t disappear from my iTunes! It lives! Continue Reading
