Spoilers: Peter Jackson Likely for Doctor Who, Fan Inspired Credits, McGann Endorses Dance

Steven Moffat has been doing the rounds as we enter the final stage of promotion for the impending Series 8. Speaking to SFX, The Moff again commented on a new era for the show, suggesting the “fairytale” was over:

“I think it feels more serious. One of the watchwords we have this year is there are consequences for choosing to live like this. It’s not a fairytale. If you have people back home, if you run away it’s going to have an effect on them. And it’s not necessarily always going to be lovely. And does the Doctor make you better? We want to make it feel that these adventures can hurt… [The Twelfth Doctor]‘s not as immediately approachable and he’s not necessarily looking for your approval. I would like to restore the sense that when he says ‘Wait here, I’ll be back’ you really hope he’ll be back, but you’re not absolutely convinced… What he’s not doing is reassuring you very much.”

The Showrunner also spoke on Clara’s relationship with the new Doctor:

“From a Doctor she could sort of control, because he had a crush on her, she’s landed with a Doctor who barely registers that she’s a girl. They’re great friends and all that but she has to be his human interface with everybody else.”

And on Peter Jackson potentially directing an episode of the series:

“He’s still incredibly busy on The Hobbit, I’ve spoken to him face to face, and he would like to do one, he accepts that there’s no money and that there’s no time, and it would have to be when he’s available - and I don’t think he’s even been available enough to answer our emails of late! I think it will probably happen at some point. I mean, he can do what the hell he likes - he owns New Zealand! I think he’s sincere in his Doctor Who fandom, to say the least. He’s a nice guy, he quite often drops me a line after a show goes out. He’s into it - it’s just, ‘Can you make it work?’ I think he would also like us to go and make it in New Zealand! And I’m like ‘OK… I’d rather we just flew you to Cardiff!’”

The recent scrip leaks reveal a lot about the opening five episodes [everything i'd imagine - Ed.] as well as possibly giving us a glimpse of the new intro sequence. The scripts state the intro features “BBC Wales Graphics based on original idea by Billy Hanshaw” and readers with good memories may remember Billy Hanshaw as being responsible for this…

Paul McGann meanwhile has endorsed fan-favourite Charles Dance for the role of The Master. Speaking to Flicks and the City, the 8th Doctor actor said:

“He would be great, he’s a fantastic actor. He’s still got a twinkle in his eye. I don’t know where he gets it from, but he’s always had it, he’d bring great gravitas and old fashioned charm… The Master is never going to go away, is he? Rather like the Doctor himself he can take any guise, so I suppose he could look like an ageing roué from the depths of space.”
